Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about child and infant ultrasound scanning.

Is an ultrasound safe for babies and children? +

Yes. Ultrasound is completely safe, painless, and uses no ionizing radiation. It is the gold standard for clinical imaging in infants and children.

Who performs the paediatric scans at LifeScan? +

All paediatric scans are performed directly by consultant radiologists with extensive experience in child and infant diagnostics. We use child-friendly protocols to ensure a calm, reassuring visit.

How do I prepare my baby or child for the scan? +

Newborn hip, spine, and brain scans require no special preparation; however, feeding your baby just before the scan is helpful to keep them content. Abdominal and urinary tract scans may require brief fasting depending on your child's age (details are provided during booking).

What is Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) screening? +

DDH is a condition where the hip joint doesn't form correctly. Early screening via ultrasound (ideally at 4 to 6 weeks of age) allows for prompt, non-surgical treatment if dysplasia is detected.
